I think in part my rating of the book was, at least in part, because I was blown away by the character of President Garfield. This was compounded by the fact that I knew so little about him before reading this book. That being said, the connection of the stories of President Garfield and his assassin was weak at best, and completely falls apart before the stories conclude.
